PIN Changes - ATM Fraud

Good Afternoon!      I wanted to see if I could get some feedback from other CUs concerning the process that is used for members to change the PIN numbers on existing Debit/ATM cards.  My questions are:

  • Do you allow PIN changes over the phone or can they only be done in person.
  • Have you or any other FI your are aware of have had any fraud that has been linked to Debit/ATM Cards having the PIN updated 

 We curretly have a system in place that allows the member to call the card vendor service and once the required confidential information is verified the PIN number on the Debit/ATM can be updated with a PIN of the member's choice.  However, we have recently had some fraudulent activity directly linked to this PIN changing process and are currently trying to determine if this is occuring at other FIs or if it is isolated to our CU. Please let me know what your processes are for PIN changes and if this had occured at your CU.  Any additional information would be appreciated. Thank you!
