Board Executive Committee

Does your credit union's Board of Directors have an Executive Committee, and if so, what is the purpose of the committee?  My research has revealed that, in this electronic age we live in, there are less reasons to have this committee, so I'm curious to know if your credit union has one, is it because of a real need, or because "that's the way we've always done it".Have a Happy Thanksgiving!
